The Maine Spend-O-Meter is based the total amount of $6,988,554,697 appropriated by the Maine State Legislature for the current fiscal year (2007), which ends June 30, 2007.

The spending total includes the amounts appropriated before the fiscal year began and the additional appropriations for the current year that were approved by the legislature during the First and Second sessions of the 122nd Legislature. The FY2007 budget numbers were provided by the Office of Fiscal and Program Review. Actual budget totals may vary.

The funds represent total aggregate state government spending including the state General Fund, Highway Fund, Operating Fund, Other State Funds, Internal Service Funds, and Bond Funds. The amount above does not include local spending, including education spending derived from local tax sources, nor does it include federal funds that do not go through state agencies, such as Social Security, Medicare, agriculture subsidies, etc.
